Amethyst: a versatile gemstone

Amethyst provides peace, clarity of mind, and has a relaxing effect. It also helps with burnout. History of Amethyst

Amethyst was once rare and precious. Amethyst, a familiar gemstone for royalty and dignitaries. In earlier times, due to its scarcity, amethyst was reserved exclusively for members of various royal houses.

From this era date the amethyst parures, or jewelry sets, often featuring the showpiece, the tiara. The famous amethyst parure of the Swedish royal family is regularly worn on important occasions by Queen Sylvia, Crown Princess Victoria, or Princess Madeleine.

In ancient China, amethysts were also used to create gemstones. An image was carved and polished into the stone. The image was incised deeply and always in reverse (intaglio). This allowed the image to be pressed into soft lacquer or wax, following the same principle as a signet ring.
